Vegetarian Vision 24th Annual ThanksGiving 2016

Vegetarian Vision, a 501 (c) (3), no profit, celebrated its 24th Annual Thanksgiving dinner at Huntington Hilton this past weekend. In lieu of preparations of their Grand Silver Jubilee, 25 th anniversary celebrations in 2017, the organization has been gearing up for a Grand 2-day International Vegetarian Convention for 2 days on September 9th & 10th in Penn Pavilion, Manhattan, NY.  The Turkey free thanksgiving dinner started with the Chairman and Founder address by H.K. Shah & Malti Shah thanking the community for the on-going 24 years of support and inviting everyone to be a life member and part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations. The program included wonderful presentation outline of the upcoming event by President Chandra Mehta & Vice President Flora Parekh, inviting the community to be a part of the celebration planning and execution. Motivational speaker Dr. Robert Ostfield, MD, Cardiologist at Montefiore Medical Center, educated the community on the various cardiac situations, prevention and care. Bob DiBeneditto attended as an invited guest supporting the organization for 2 decades. Efficiently coordinated by the entire executive team – Registration team –  Ashok Acharya & Paresh Parekh, M.C. Dr. Krishna Jhaveri;  Other executive committee members Director Vinod Shah, VP Suman Munjal;  Committee Members Kanak Golia, Kirti Shukla, Meghna Mehta, Kashmira Vyas, Bina Sabapathy, Anu Jain,   Gunjan Rastogi  & volunteers and supporters, the event brought together several community leaders in attendance. A professional, traditional cultural program with sumptuous vegetarian dinner added a special flavor to the celebrations. Beautifully carved  pumpkin decoration by President Chandra Mehta, Malti Shah and team attracted the attendees, media and photographers!

 

The main objective of the organization is to promote vegetarianism among the people of the world. The organization aims to serve as a resource network and a think-tank for vegetarians worldwide, with the ultimate objective of a healthy future for all of mankind, and for planet earth. The organization over a course of time (24 years) has supported various programs and projects in alignment to their goals and objectives of promoting a healthy vegetarian way of life, save the planet, save the animals. Promoting vegetarianism, Partnering with restaurants for meatless days, encouraging schools and educational institutions to include healthy meal options, contacting hospitals for healthy, cholesterol free vegan meal options, Encouraging airlines for inclusion of healthy meal options and flying conditions, engaging in Healthy Lifestyle Choices – Working at work/ life balance, diet, exercise, stress management, yoga etc. have been some of the primary activities carried by the organization.

VEGETARIAN VISION THANKSGIVING DINNER 2015

Under the leadership of Chairman & Founder H.K. Shah and Malati Shah, this organization has been highly influential in spreading vegetarian way of life. Their programs and events are focused on promoting happy healthy vegetarian way of life and healthy food habits.

Chairman H.K. Shah announced big celebrations of Upcoming Vegetarian Vision Silver Jubilee Year in 2017, intending to promote vegetarianism across various other communities. Additional information can be found on our website at www.vegetarianvision.org. He urged for organization and community support and volunteers to make this a grand success.

President Chandra Mehta said in her inspiring speech emphasizing the benefits to become vegetarian. She said human being by nature is vegetarian and veggie diets are healthy and environment friendly. Production of non-vegetarian food has direct effect on global warming. Mrs. Mehta created beautiful pumpkin decorations making event’s center of attraction. She informed the community about upcoming events including the vegetarian pageant in spring of 2016 and encouraged everybody to participate and be a member.

Overall event was co-ordinated and emceed by Flora Parekh (Vice President) and Vinod Shah (Director) with the help of the entire executive committee and volunteers. Ms. Flora Parekh also urged all interested volunteers can sign in / donate through our website atwww.vegetarianvision.org for our upcoming Silver Jubilee Celebrations in 2017.

A cardiologist Vegan from Michigan, Dr. Joel Kahn was the esteemed speaker at this Thanksgiving Dinner and spoke on Best Heart healthy diets and Vegetarian dietary patterns and mortality inspiring people to live a happy healthy vegetarian life. Several doctors in attendance had an informative question /answer session providing immense wealth of knowledge to attendees.

Vegetarian Vision conducted its kids annual Essay competition in February coordinated by Ms. Nivea Kothari, Youth Chair. All 4 Essay competition winners were felicitated with cash cheques and certificates. Amongst the winners were Aneesh Sabarad (1st Prize) IS237 School, Priyansh Raval (2nd Prize), Grade 10 Hicksville High School, Prisha Arora (3rd Prize) HB Thompson Middle School and Rishi Rakesh Shah (Prize 4th) Southwoods Middle School. Vegetarian Vision Congratulates all the winners and encourages all students to look forward to their participation in future.

H.K. Shah’s generous donation of $125,000 included $25,000 for the current year and $100,000 for the upcoming Silver Jubillee celebrations, was very motivating to the community. He urged this first time in 25 years fundraising, encouraging the community to feel a part of the event.

A rocking musical night by Sargam group rocked the dance floor. Exciting raffle coordinated by Kirti Shukla, Paresh Parekh, Meghna Shah and Dipika Modi. Regsitration desk managed by Minesh Desai, Ashok Acharya, Suman Munjal, Meghna Mehta and team. Executive Committee Member Kanak Golia and many organization heads were in attendance. Entire executive committee and volunteer’s hard work made the event flow seamless and highly successful with an attendance of over 400 guests. The event ended with sumptuous vegetarian dinner with a message to live a happy healthy life.

Mr. & Ms. Vegetarian Pageant

Vegetarian Vision, a not for profit organization registered in the State of New York since 1992, organized the very first intercollegiate, tri-state Mr. & Ms. Vegetarian Pageant on September 14, 2013 at the Maguire Theatre SUNY OLD Westbury in Long Island, NY. This pageant was organized with the goal of promoting vegetarian way of life amongst our young upcoming generation, under the strong leadership of Founder & Chairman Mr. Harshad K. Shah. Animesh Goenka (President), Flora Parekh (Pageant Chair & Jt. Secretary), Mr. Vinod Shah (Pageant Co-Chair & Secretary) and Mr. Naveen Shah (Pageant Advisor & Incoming President) honored the winners – Mr. Vegetarian Harshil Parekh, Ms. Vegetarian Pamela Osborn Popp, Mr. Vegetarian runner up Meghav parikh and Ms. Vegetarian runner up Teena Sukhwal.

More than 40 talented contestants between the age group of 18 and 26, representing over 20 different colleges from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut shared their thoughts on vegetarian way of life and exhibited exquisite talent.

The entire pageant was well organized under the strong leadership & direction of Pageant chair Flora Parekh with an efficient pageant committee including Cultural Chair – renowned singer & performer Varsha Joshi, Youth Chair Nivea Kothari, Public Relations chair Paresh Parekh, Sound Engineer Sunil Joshi and several other volunteers. A beautiful souvenir, extra ordinarily designed and facilitated by Mrs. Beena Kothari, was gifted to the attendees in a Vegetarian Vision carry bag.

An efficient executive committee team of Dr. Krishna Jhaveri (Vice President), Dr. Uttam Munver (Vice President), Dr. Harshad Bhatt (Vice President), Minesh Desai (Finance), Sudhir Tolia (Administration) volunteers Malati Shah, Suvarna Shah, Sudha Munver, Anupam Goenka and many others, under the leadership of Chairman Mr. H. K. Shah, President Animesh Goenka; Pageant Chair Flora Parekh & Co-Chair Vinod Shah contributed to the huge success of the program and the goal of spreading a noble cause of promoting “Vegetarian Way of Life”.

Mrs. Flora Parekh and Mrs. Varsha Joshi were the “Master of Ceremonies” for the evening. Melodious Bollywood singing by Varsha Joshi rocked the audience through the evening. Ms. Nivea Kothari was instrumental in coordinating and handling the contestants through the evening.

The event was completely sold out with over 350 people representing several organization and community leaders from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The program started with sumptuous appetizers followed by formal opening by Pageant Chair & Jt. Secretary Flora Parekh and a welcome note by Pageant Co-Chair & Secretary Mr. Vinod Shah.

Mr. H. K. Shah and Animesh Goenka recognized the major donors for the current year Mr. Nitin & Leena Doshi and Mr. Paresh & Flora Parekh. They also thanked all the additional donors, sponsors and community leaders and welcomed incoming President Mr. Naveen Shah.

Several media; including South Asian Times – Mr. Kamlesh Mehta, TV Asia, IVS TV, PTC Punjabi, Get Punjabi, Indian Panorma, South Asian Insider, Hum Hindustani, Pardes news and SUNY Old Westbury, etc. coordinated by Mr. Ajay Batra; covered the event.

Contestant went through 3 different rounds for the pageant namely – Personality & Traditional round (Top 21); Talent Round (Top 11) and Question answer round (Top 6). Five estimeed judges; Bob Dibenedetto, Pam Kwatra, Alka Shah, Shivangi Maini and Kiran Singh; efficiently judged and picked the top 4 winners at the end of round three. Audience was also given an opportunity to participate in the selection process. Total 4 selected winners below received scholarship cheque from Vegetarian Vision.

Founder and Chairman Mr. Harshad K. Shah, has burning desire to make people healthy by Vegetarian Foods and lifestyle and is a visionary, and a firm believer in being healthy by Vegetarian Foods and save the animals. A strong team of volunteers, participants, donors, organizers, attendees; under his strong leadership; were instrumental in spreading his vision of promoting Vegetarian way of life amongst the youth. Program ended with Thank you note from the Secretary and Jt. Secretary followed by sumptuous dinner.
